Welcome to St Thomas a Becket Church - Shirenewton. On Saturday 6th September 2003 there was an open day. This was not your normal 'stuffy' church open day - but a fun packed day for the whole family which places the Church firmly at the centre of village social life.

The schedule:

‘Church in the Village’ Open Day

Saturday 6th September

10 o’clock to 5 o’clock

  • A homemade goodies table (Bring and Buy)
  • The Local Dogs Show (Entry forms from the Village Shop)
  • The Guides ‘Curious Corners’ Competition
  • Fair Trade Stall
  • Tours up the Tower
  • Try your hand at the Hand Chimes Or, why not try something bigger? Yes its 'have a Go at Bell ringing!'
  • 'Local History Society’ Finds
  • A Raffle
  • Refreshments and Ploughman’s Lunches in the Marquee
  • See the Church tapestry and new Altar Cloth in the making
  • An Opportunity for any local Young Musicians to Play…
  • Jazz from ‘ Something Sultry’
  • S.O.D.S Corner    (Fancy a part in next January’s panto?)
  • Decorate a Gingerbread Man (The Brownies)
  • Kids Ad Lib   ‘Songs from the Show’
  • ‘Musicians of the Masque’ and their Renaissance Music
  • The Scouts Icelandic Photo Competition
  • Make a Gruesome Gargoyle
  • ‘Here Come the Brides’ A fun parade of local wedding dresses
