Well it was billed as a "warm summer’s evening with the sound of gentle jazz drifting on the breeze, the click of a glass, the pleasure of a picnic ……."

Jazz at the Church lived up to its billing in that it was a casual, open air, jazz evening in the Church grounds - but a warm summer's evening it was not! 40 well wrapped souls huddled under marquees, braved the blustery weather, drank copious amounts of Pimms (well the organisers certainly did) and listened to great live jazz from the Village’s own “Something Sultry”.

Friday 2nd July

7:30pm

Something Sultry's Sax player had a 'busted' lip (so they were three instead of four), but they played excellent music non-stop for a couple of hours! Most people had picnics (some of the purely liquid variety!), the kids played happily amongst the grave stones and the rain restricted itself to the odd brief shower.  But, it was a 'wild and windy' evening!

Despite battling the elements, all those who attended professed enjoyment although several mentioned that they did have to thaw out at home. I guess it's the penalty for arranging an outdoor event at the height of a British summer during Wimbledon week!

Our thanks to all those who attended and to Karen, Jane and James (Something Sultry) who gave their time and energy and even paid for their spouses to attend! We raised £205 towards the extension fund!

The photos don't do the bravery of the band and all those who attended any justice. It was cold and windy - I just seem to have taken the photos when the sun put in its brief appearance!
