private charity ball

A private charity ball was held on 2nd October 2010 Cae-pw-Cella - the home of Mike Peirce.

Initiated by Mike and organised by the members of the Fund Raising Committee, the black tie ball was held in celebration of the Ryder Cup at the nearby Celtic Manor Resort. Approximately 200 people enjoyed drinks & canapés, followed by a formal sit-down dinner (with hog roast), followed by dancing to the Monmouth Big Band.

There was a massive amount of work done by supporters of the Church and its associated community activities and, we mustn't forget to mention, 18 children (mainly from the village and aged from about 7 years - 16 years) who provide the table service.

Throughout the fundraising period (which started with the village review on 3rd April 2004) the focus of the Fund Raising Committee has been to pursue the simple philosophy that 'fund raising can be fun'. It has focused mainly on social events which bring together the village community. The charity ball certainly met the twin objectives of enjoyment and fundraising!

The ball raised in excess of £20,000 - mainly thanks to the generosity of certain individuals who prefer to remain nameless.  This result means we will totally clear our remaining debts, and contribute to a range of nominated charities which the ball also supported and reserve funds for church maintenance going forward.

Many thanks to Mike and all the many people who contributed to making the evening a great success.

Thank you for supporting Shirenewton Church.
