Mountains of Adventure was a fund raising initiative built around two simultaneous, challenging walks;

-

the Kilimanjaro Challenge - Seven intrepid explorers (average age 58 yrs) walked their way to the top of Africa by climbing Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro - the largest highest free standing mountain in the World with Uhuru Peak being 5,895 metres (19,341 feet) - this is  515 meters (1,640ft) higher than Everest Base Camp. The mountain itself rises 4600 m (15,100 feet) from the base. Read the story and view the photos here.

-

Sunrise on Pen-y-Fan - For those unable to make the commitment to the Kilimanjaro challenge, 'Sunrise on Pen-y-Fan' was a supporting walk, designed to coincide with the Kilimanjaro attempt and support the fund raising attempts. This walk was intended to offer a group of walkers the opportunity to experience the sunrise over Wales from the summit of Pen-y-Fan on the same day as the Kilimanjaro climbers experience the sunrise over Africa. Unfortunately the weather wasn't kind and it was a bit of a damp experience. Read more here.

Needless to say, these were all sponsored walks to raise money to pay off the Church's debt (incurred by the building of the extension - see the extension story here). Part of the funds raised were contributed to African charities and an Irish charity. Read about the charities here.

Although the walks are complete it's never too late to support us. Feel free to donate using one of the buttons below to donate now using your credit card through the secure Paypal website.

You do not need to have a Paypal account to make a donation!

Please note that all climbers paid their own expenses and all sponsorship money goes directly to the Charities.
