offa's bikers - day 3

Offa's Bikers pages: home, route overview, stats summary, day1, day2, day3

Day 3 was Saturday 29th July. We left the Harp Inn in stages. Kevin & David followed by Mark. The idea was that Mark would catch us up. This is where it all went wrong. Mark got lost and we finally found him in Pandy after lunch So, David & Kevin left the Harp Inn at 8:30am on a beautiful morning. Its was down hill initially and then a long pull up - no surprise there - through Gladestry and along the B4594. We then cut across to Hay-on-Wye arriving at 10:25am! No sign of Mark so we pushed on to Pandy. Up and up and up we went and then it started to rain. The pull up towards Hay Bluff is a very long arduous climb. The view up there can be great - when its not raining - and, boy was it raining. It transpired that Mark was following the same (previously agreed) route but was about 45 minutes behind us! Lunch in Pandy having cycled 31 miles and been peddling for 3 hours and 42 minutes! Joined up once more, the rain had stopped and we struck out (actually, up) to Monmouth arriving just after 4:00pm. We left at 4:30pm heading down the Wye Valley through Tintern to Chepstow and then onto Beachley and the end of the ride. So Day 3 was just under 69 miles and 7 hours 30 minutes of peddling. A total of 189 miles!
