Celtic Trail (250 miles)
- Day 3 Leaving the King Arthur Hotel we had perhaps the best riding of the trip with a spectular off road section from Reynoldston down to Penmean. This took us onto the coast and the Mumbles where we dropped into Verdis Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlour say 'thanks' to Mario. See the photos below. Its a nice place - go there!
Then along the Swansea sea front past Port Talbot before heading away from the coast towards Pontypridd. After lunch at Margam Castle the serious hills started. Some very steep and extremely difficult (notice how heart felt that statement is!) hills up towards Caerphilly - not helped by a minor 4 mile detour when we went up the Ogmore Vale by mistake! Then finally - just what you need after 78 miles - a steep climb from Caerphilly at the pub in Rudry. The bed and breakfast was 'The Coach House' which was down hill from the pub - thankfully!
