kilimanjaro - 6th july - climb day 1

Suprisingly (for Tanzania) we set out more-or-less on time for Machame Gate and the start of the climb. It is about a 2 hour journey. Then it was off and away into the swirling mists and dampness of the rain forest.

Kevin and Charles suddenly realise that it's not a big space for both of them

Supper in the mess tent that night. Note the porters lining the side - it was too damp and wet outside and this is their only shelter. They sleep in the mess tent.

And so ended day 2 and 'climb day 1'. We were at 3,000m.
